Start collecting old magazines as soon as possible- you will need a lot of them!
Here is what you will need:
- As many old magazines as possible. Have the kids bring them in!
- White construction paper- preferably 8x12 ***The first year I did these (shown above) I dove in with 18 x 12 paper. Unless you have very patient students, the smaller the better!***
- Small zip lock bags
Before beginning, have kids brain-storm what they would like to draw. Since this is an Earth Day project, it is fitting to have them pick their favorite animal. To color their picture, they will be looking through the magazines for color. They should color in chunks. For example to "paint" the sky, they will look through their magazines for shades of blue, rip out small pieces, and then glue the pieces to their paper. It is helpful to rip the paper colors you need, place them in zip lock bags, and then glue them all at once. Have kids lightly spread their glue stick over the part they want to fill in with color, and then add the magazine pieces one by one.
